Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that small businesses replace their conventional marketing and advertising campaigns with word of mouth marketing (WOMM). In fact, WOMM should be a compliment to your existing marketing program. There are many instances where a company’s advertising itself causes people to talk about a company. A key step in the development of a WOMM campaign is to create things for people to talk about. Those things could be a new product, a service enhancement or an eye catching, provocative ad or promotion that gets people talking about you in a positive way.
