The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce (www.meridenchamber.com) unveiled its newly updated website at a morning breakfast meeting this past Friday. It was a case study in generating word of mouth. Typically the Chamber would simply send an email or snail mail announcement and eventually members would find out there was a change. But recognizing the importance of the Internet the Chamber leadership took the bold step of creating an event that would create buzz. They invited Chamber members to attend a free breakfast to see first hand the new website.
The “2.0” version of the Meriden Chamber website was doing fine, averaging over 20,000 hits a month, but Chamber President Sean Moore paraphrased the Great One, Wayne Gretsky by saying they didn’t want to go where websites are, but rather go where website technology was going to be.
As a result of this out of the box thinking by one of the most progressive Chamber of Commerce in the State of Connecticut over 40 member advocates and evangelists are spreading the word.
